Last Ford Ranger rolls off line at doomed auto plant

Source: USA Today

The last Ford Ranger that rolled off the assembly line today wasn’t fancy: just a plain, white pickup destined for service at a pest-control company. But it did symbolize the end of an era.

The Ranger will be the last vehicle produced at Ford’s Twin Cities Assembly Plant in Minnesota, which offered high-wage manufacturing jobs for 86 years and produced everything from Model Ts to Country Squires.

While Ford has been hiring at its other plants, Twin Cities is being closed because Ford is pulling out of the small pickup business in the U.S. Over the years, the plant produced 6 million vehicles and most recently employed about 800 workers.

The last pickup is going to Orkin, the pest-control giant that was one of the best customers for the Ranger pickup.

Ford SVT: Raptor on the Rocks and Celebrating 20 Years

Ford’s F-150 SVT Raptor is no longer an unknown entity; we’ve grown to love its high-flying antics, the 100-mph blasts through the desert, and the ability to tear through just about any type of muck imaginable all in the comfort of a $44,000 street truck with a warranty. That hasn’t stopped Ford from making it better, though, and we recently joined the SVT wizards and a fleet of 2012 Raptors in Moab, Utah, for an exploration of the vehicle’s least likely skill: rock crawling.

Yes, the three-ton beast with a wheelbase of at least 133 inches can shimmy up crevasses and climb over boulders like a rubber-soled mountain goat. In addition to the standard 411-hp, 6.2-liter V-8; long-travel suspension; 35-inch-tall BFGoodrich tires; and an electronic-locking rear differential; the 2012 model ($43,565 base) is notable for its standard Torsen front diff and optional forward-looking camera. Other changes for 2012 include new 17-inch wheels, revised bedside graphics ($1075) and hood ($900), Race Red paint in place of Molten Orange, and a more tasteful interior package with real aluminum accents ($750).

2012 Ford F-150 Adds New FX Appearance Package, More Capabilities and Technologies to Fuel-Efficient Powertrains

DALLAS – Ford F-150 – the most fuel-efficient and capable full-size pickup on the market – is getting fine-tuned for 2012, with a new FX appearance package and several driveline updates and new technologies to further improve and refine the driving experience.

“The new FX package delivers a distinctive style that truck buyers are looking for without compromising on any of the F-150’s rugged qualities,” said Raj Sarkar, F-150 Marketing manager. “It expands our range of specialty vehicles with custom elements that customers previously could find only in the aftermarket.”

The new FX appearance package is available on both FX4 and FX2 trucks and delivers a unique look with stealthy, flat-black accents. The look is set off with black fender and tailgate badges that feature red lettering, which is carried into the interior with a red-stitched steering wheel. 2012 Ford F-150 FX2 interior

2012 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor Expands Off-Road Prowess with New Torsen Front Differential and Off-Road Front Camera

DALLAS – The 2012 F-150 SVT Raptor is set to deliver a new level of the no-compromise off-road performance the truck is famed for and, with a variety of new technologies and interior and exterior updates, it won’t disappoint.

“A major element of the SVT Raptor program is our work to continuously expand the capabilities it offers to customers. We want to cover all dimensions of off-roading – from desert running to rock climbing,” said Raj Sarkar, Ford F-150 Marketing manager. “We always aim to keep the product fresh and exciting, and all of our changes for 2012 reflect that.”

Additional capability for the 2012 F-150 SVT Raptor comes from a new Torsen front differential. The system increases grip significantly for the front end of the truck and allows it to pull itself over obstacles and up steep grades, even when the traction is split between the front tires.

Ford SVT Raptor with… six doors?! Only in the UAE

The United Arab Emirates is a land that continually breathes new life into the phrase “More money than sense.” The new prime example of this is a custom-built Ford SVT Raptor that believes the prime number of doors is six. Said to hail from the UAE, it’s quite clear that anything goes in the Land Of The Burning Dollar Sign Sun.

We’re not going to completely hate on this thing, of course, as the idea of a six-door Raptor puts visions of a seriously great camping trip in mind. Still, we’re not even sure if this thing is actually real or if someone with solid skills spent too much time playing around on their computer. Judge for yourself by clicking past the jump and watching the video.

Ford and Toyota to Collaborate on Light Truck Hybrids News at AutoTalk

Ford Motor Company and Toyota Motor Corporation will be joining forces in the development of hybrid technology for light trucks and SUVs. The two manufacturers will also be co-developing advanced telematics and other on-board Internet services.

The announcement comes as corporate fuel-economy requirements are on the verge of doubling to an average of 54.5 mpg by 2025. The Obama administration’s Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) proposal will force automakers to revamp their line-ups with lighter, more fuel efficient models such as hybrids. Under the new policy, cars produced between the 2016 and 2025 model years will require a 5 percent increase in fuel economy. Full sized pick-ups produced from 2016 through 2019 will be exempt from this standard. After 2019, full sized pick-ups will have to meet a standard yet to be determined.

Automakers have struggled in the past to meet fuel economy standards for full sized trucks. Ford and Toyota’s collaboration is hoped to help ease these troubles while maintaining consumers’ demands.

Ford and Toyota will sign an official agreement next year and plan to release new hybrid systems on rear-wheel drive SUVs and light weight trucks later this decade.

STURGIS — The 2011 Ford Harley-Davidson F-150 combines two rich traditions into
an extraordinary package for customers who crave capability and long for the open
road. With authentic styling, a new standard 6.2-liter V8 engine and plenty of

through in our specialized truck.
The successful collaboration between these two icons of the open road has produced
nine F-150 models, as well as six Super Duty F-250 and F-350 models, and in 2009,
the first Harley-Davidson F-450 edition truck. The exterior of the 2011 Ford Harley-
Davidson F-150 offers a bold front fascia and six-bar-shaped billet-style satin chrome
grille and boasts Harley-Davidson satin chrome badging. The truck also has a
lowered appearance because of a standard, fully integrated deployable running board.

and low-profile performance tires. The paint selection is classic Harley-Davidson
Tuxedo Black and Ingot Silver.
New graphics on the hood and body side of the truck are executed in an engine-turned

console lid also carry the engine-turned finish. All interior chrome surfaces feature a
new satin finish. Premium leather-trimmed seats come with accent color inserts and a
